A stop mute for French horn, aluminum with cork rings. Stopped horn is normally played with the hand pushed into the bell; a stop mute gives the same brassy, buzzing sound without the hand, with more consistency and volume, which is why players in large ensembles and bands keep one in the case. Remember it raises the pitch, so you transpose down a half step as you would for hand stopping.
