Condition: This guitar is used. Make sure to view all of the photos attached. This guitar has had a busy life! It does have various scuffs, scratches, and dents. This may be a good guitar for a restoration project. The only serious issue with this instrument appears on the bridge. The bottom of the bridge is lifting off from the body. We have stored this guitar with no tension to make sure the separation does not progress. That being said, this guitar is not in a condition where it is playable right away. It will need work before that is possible.

This is a beautiful Japan made Greco GR-623 from the 1970's. It is still is playing order, but definitely has some dings and such. The photos above are of the actual guitar and show most of the problems. There are a few dents and scratches on each side and a greater number of scuffs on the back of the body. On the face of the guitar, there are some cracks in the finish that do not seem to penetrate through to the wood, but they run along the wood grain. The biggest issue with this guitar is the warping around the bridge. Due to prolonged storage with tension on the strings, the bridge has started to be pulled up towards the sound hole. I tried my best to capture this in the photos. This has had new Martin String put on it, and tuned fully with no additional warping, but it is being stored without tension. Overall, this guitar is still usable, but it is definitely around 50 years old!

The Guitar:

Greco (Japanese: グレコ Gureko) is a Japanese guitar brand owned by the Kanda Shokai Corporation (in Japanese) 神田商会, a musical instrument wholesaler mostly known for being part of Fender Japan. Instruments manufactured with the name "Greco" are electric and acoustic guitars.

In the early 1970s Kanda Shokai marketed Greco Gibson-like models, but with bolt-on necks rather than the set necks of genuine Gibson guitars. These were very similar to the Ibanez Gibson-like models available at that time; and most of these models had a script Greco logo. By the mid–late 1970s most Greco Gibson-like models were being made with set necks and open-book Gibson headstock designs. Some other Greco Gibson-like models from the 1970s had a different headstock design, more like a Guild headstock design, that had a Greco logo with equally sized letters.

This guitar is extremely unique! I am fairly certain that this guitar was a custom build as all of the others I have seen have more of a "Martin" style (flat) headstock. It seems like all of the parts are original except maybe the saddle. If you have any questions or additional information regarding this guitar, let us know!
