Washburn's B17K-D is a five-string bluegrass banjo with a flame maple resonator and a maple rim, in sunburst. Maple is the bluegrass wood: bright, loud, and punchy, with the snap that carries in a jam. Planetary gold tuners hold tune better than friction pegs, the engraved gold armrest is easier on the forearm over a long session, and an ebony-tipped maple bridge gives a clean, articulate attack. Remo head, strung with D'Addario J60+ lights.
