The B45 is probably the most widely played clarinet mouthpiece in the world: the universal all-rounder Bernard Van Doren designed, open enough for a big, flexible sound, controlled enough for the concert band and the pit. Teachers prescribe it by default; professionals keep one as the known quantity.

Tip opening 119.5 hundredths of a millimetre with a medium-long facing, traditional beak; Vandoren recommends #2.5–#3.5+ reeds with it.
