The e 901 is Sennheiser's boundary mic for kick drum: a flat condenser you lay inside the bass drum on a towel or a pillow, and it is done. No stand, no boom through the port hole, nothing to knock over. Because it sits on the shell it uses the boundary effect for a clean, full low end and a lot of attack, with the frequency response already shaped for kick so it needs little EQ.
